At the end of every weekend, I am further convinced I have the best friends in the world. Lots of relaxed hanging out, playing apples to apples, getting coffee, enjoying the company. Also, our dog discovered firewood was good for chewing & the cat discovered the sink.

I think I’ve finally narrowed down my choices to five for Alternative Spring Break:
• Heidelberg Project in Detroit
• Smithsonian Museum of American History
• Smithsonian Museum of Natural History
• National Library of Medicine
• Library of Congress
All of the projects offered by these organizations sound very interesting & I’d be happy to work at any of them for a week.

Another quote from Everything Is Miscellaneous that I lovelovelove [& may only have a little bit to do with having a card catalog tattooed on my arm]:
There’s something comforting about the sight of cards spooning in a library card catalog. A world of ideas and knowledge, more than we could ever absorb, is waiting for us, carefully indexed in those neat rows of drawers.
Speak of card catalogs, last night while watching 30 Rock, I spotted one in Liz Lemon’s apartment. I was very excited.

I love the idea behind Tweenbots, described as People/Robot art. The video makes me smile & kindles some faith in the human spirit:
Tweenbots are human-dependent robots that navigate the city with the help of pedestrians they encounter. Rolling at a constant speed, in a straight line, Tweenbots have a destination displayed on a flag, and rely on people they meet to read this flag and to aim them in the right direction to reach their goal.

Also, this is ingenious & hilarious – the Big Lebowski rewritten as a Shakespearean play: Two Gentlemen of Lebowski. On the rug:
It was of consequence, I should think; verily, it tied the room together, gather’d its qualities as the sweet lovers’ spring grass doth the morning dew or the rough scythe the first of autumn harvests. It sat between the four sides of the room, making substance of a square, respecting each wall in equal harmony, in geometer’s cap; a great reckoning in a little room. Verily, it transform’d the room from the space between four walls presented, to the harbour of a man’s monarchy.

I’ve decided that I want mountains for my birthday, so this afternoon Joel agreed that we could take a birthday/end of semester trip to Kentucky or Tennessee. I really have no preferences as to where we go or what we do, as long as I am surrounded by mountains.
Any suggestions?
