Today, I noticed that the mornings are getting brighter & brighter. The sun is rising about 10 minutes earlier each week, which is encouraging because it means that spring is slowly on its way, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
I’m a few inches closer to going to Cairo this summer. Over the years I’ve learned to temper my excitement of uncertain things, so I have no hopes this will actually come through, but, since traveling to Egypt almost three years ago, I’ve talked again & again about going back. It’d be nice to follow through on that. Or go to the Netherlands. Or stay home.
This Saturday Joel’s band is playing at Founder’s Brewery in Grand Rapids. I’m really excited about the show – I love the band, I love the beer & I’ll be able to see friends from home that I love. [RSVP on Facebook!]
We got second place at trivia again yesterday!
Yesterday I came across a site called Let’s Save Michigan. Here’s the blurb from the main page:
Moving Michigan in the right direction requires thousands of small acts from us, Michiganders. We can’t wait for the next Washington bailout or big-auto factory to spring up – we must take the lead. So make a pledge, encourage others to follow your lead, and be a part of moving our state towards a better tomorrow.
You can pledge to do things such as attend local cultural/arts events, use public transportation, spend money at local businesses, get involved in local politics, etc. I think it’s a wonderful site & I hope it inspires pride & action. I’m also really excited about a poster contest they’re holding – “The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) and Let’s Save Michigan have issued an open call to artists, illustrators, and graphic designers for original posters to inspire Michiganders to revive their state.” Although I often feel like a wandering soul who wants nothing more than to travel the globe, if I stay in the States, I’ll probably stay in Michigan.
One benefit to having student loans & continuing to go to school – a nice tax refund. Today I bought a pair of shoes. Besides a pair of running shoes last summer, I think it’s the first brand-new pair I’ve bought since I got back from Bulgaria a year & a half ago. It’s nice to have shoes that fit for once!
Time to read a book.
