On with the weekend

I’m currently sitting in our hotel room at the Super 8 in Bloomington, Indiana, blogging while Joel is out picking up a pizza. Today was crazy – work, then hostel, then metro + luggage to airport, then flight to Indy, then drive to Bloomington & now to put the finishing touches on my presentation for tomorrow.

After all this crazy busy stressfulness, it was a wonderful surprise to find out the hotel is overbooked [there's a quilting festival in town apparently] & we got a free upgrade to a jacuzzi room!

Overall reflection on alternative spring break: two thumbs up.

Oh & I now also have my own National Library of Medicine library card in addition to my Library of Congress library card!! I think I may have to start a collection.

More words & photos to come about this past week, but at the moment, I’m focusing on tomorrow.
The full title of the conference is “Change and Continuity: A Conference for Students and Beginning Professionals on Archives, Rare Books, and Special Collections” & it’s hosted by Indiana University. I’ll be presenting during the third session in the afternoon, which is held concurrently with another session. This means there will be fewer people there, which will hopefully make me less nervous. You can see the full schedule [& my name online!] here.

Although I’m really anxious about speaking to a room full of people & pretending to be some sort of expert on a subject, I really just want to share my passion with people. Archives matter & are important to communities!! Archivists are in powerful positions to bring about social change! I hope that comes across through my nervousness!

Time to end this disjointed point & sleep & eat some pizza!

I’ll leave you with a picture from this week.
