Two weeks in & a chance to catch my breath

Another week done & over! And what a long week it has been!

Late last night Alisha & Lila caught a plane back to South Africa, after a crazy evening of running around & having a blast. The girls had gotten back from a whirlwind trip down to Luxor [night train there, a full day of exploring, night train back] yesterday morning & they checked out the Egyptian Museum while I was at work. When I got home, we had sushi & then headed into town.

We first went to a Sufi Whirling Dervishes performance. There’s some really good information on the specific performance/meaning here. It was an impressive, beautiful show & such a joy to watch.

Adding to the greatness of the performance, a small kitty who had found its way into the theater, found my lap & proceeded to take a nap there for most of the show. It was exactly what I needed – I’ve been going through cuddle withdrawals!

After the show we wandered around Khan el-Kahlili, a huge market in Cairo, & the girls bought some last minute things [& I picked up gifts for friends back home!]. Then we rushed home, they packed in a hurry & jumped in another cab to the airport.

Now everyone has gone & it’s just me on my own now. Not only have Alisha & Lila headed home, but Opal is off on an adventure. She had flown into Germany to catch her flight to Morocco, but the flight has been canceled outright because of the volcanic ash. She was stranded for a few days, but is now on her way to Austria to visit some friends. She doesn’t have many plans at this point & could be gone up to a month.

While I’m sad that everyone has gone, I am looking forward to my life settling into a more regular routine, complete with an early bedtime. I plan on taking it easy this weekend, with a possible trip to the zoo. Also, we have a kilo of limes, so I’m thinking of juicing them & making cookies.

But now it’s time to eat dinner, take a bath, read my book, do laundry, clean the apartment & whatever else I want because the weekend is all mine!!

I’ll leave you with this photo I just took from my balcony of the trees that bloomed this week – I love the intense color!
