A few weeks ago I wrote a post about a grant proposal I helped to write. It’s a Grant Opportunities <Collaborative Spaces> project funded by the University of Michigan & we are 1 of 6 teams [out of about 50 initial proposals] to get a grant. Our team will receive $2,500 dollars to engage in interdisciplinary research and we’ll also will have access to the Design Lab One which looks like an incredible workspace.
Here’s an excerpt from our proposal:
We propose to explore the idea of the homeless community and the ways in which they can have
meaningful interactions with the homeful. Using digital technologies and direct access to a local
homeless community, we will examine preconceived notions of both the homeless and the homeful, as
well as methods to challenge and overturn misconceptions. We intend to provide a voice to those who
are too often misunderstood, and facilitate a conversation between the disparate, yet intermingling
communities of the homeless and the homeful. Furthermore, we ask how this conversation can be
translated into meaningful, though possibly brief, interactions, from which both groups will likely
emerge with increased insight.
I’m incredibly excited about this project. We’ll be meeting with the committee soon to work on the details & I’m sure we’ll have lots of team meetings to brainstorm & get going.
I feel very lucky to be apart of this.
My internship application is coming along, as well. My application needs to be in the Hague before November 30th, so I’m hoping to send it out on the 20th. I am SO excited, but trying to keep my expectation to a minimum in the case of [a very likely] disappointment.
