More happiness, more blogging

This week has been like living in poetry.
Beautiful.

Here’s another Andrew Bird solo video. There’s something about watching him, or anyone for that matter, be absorbed in the music they’re making. It’s beautiful. Part of me wants to get an oboe & begin playing again [I found one for $200 on Craigslist today...]

Peter Gabriel covers Aracde Fire [& many other great bands]. I wish he was touring this somewhere in Michigan.

Tonight we’re heading to East Lansing – the band Joel plays is has a show there.

My toes have been tapping to this song all week:

1901 – Phoenix

Some friends made feathered headbands as Christmas gifts this year. I’m wearing mine today – it’s makes me feel a little silly, but happy.

feathered friday

This morning, like every Friday morning, I met with a few classmates at a local coffeeshop, to work, collaborate, share and hang out. We started meeting last semester to work on a project together, but we had such a good time we decided to continue the Friday morning meetings.

Now it’s work, then off to North Campus for the GROCS meeting.

I have coffee jitters & feel happy & chatty, despite the concrete grey outside.
Hopefully you’re having a similarly delightful day.

Well here we are – the last day of the decade.
Not only is it Joel‘s birthday, but it’s the day I post the rest of my decade album lists. How exciting!

Here it goes:

Decade Music List: The Bottom 15

Just to be clear:
I’m not an album reviewer, just a listener. For some of these I have very little to say other than “I like it” & when I have more to say, it’s usually about the events & emotions surrounding the album than about the music itself.

That said:

Here is the first half of my list, albums 25 through 11.

Decade Music List: The Honorable Mentions [& Merry Christmas Eve!]

While my husband & step-brother play Mario Brothers Wii [& my parents cheer them on], I am putting together some lists.

One list is all the sources to which I can apply to for internship funding:
There are a number of organizations that I can submit applications to for travel & living expenses, which would be amazingly helpful if I go overseas this summer. However, I need to have confirmation of my acceptance as an intern before I can apply, so hopefully I hear back somewhat soon.

The second list is a list of music:
As the year is coming to an end, my friends are busy making their year end music lists &, this year, their decade lists as well. I thought I would join the fun & so I’m making a list of my top 25 albums of the past decade.

For more music lists – my husband is posting his top 25, one each day & my good friend Quillen is about to begin posting his – ten different lists in all [including favorite songs, albums, least favorites, etc of both the year & decade].

I really like all of these albums, but I’ve not owned them long enough to put them onto an official decade list:

Honorable Mentions.

Archivists misrepresented on the Daily Show… but what else did you expect?

The School of Information has a listerv that anyone in SI can post to. Jobs are posted, advice is sought, football tickets sold, happy hour is promoted & lots of other things.

About three days ago, someone sent out an email about what might be “possibly the single greatest archival opportunity in the history of SI” – a Grateful Dead archivist position at UC Santa Cruz. A day later, someone responded with news that the position had been covered by NPR. Then, yesterday, it was covered by Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. Now as a fan of The Daily Show, I have no expectations that archivists & the archival profession will be represented accurately. I do, however, except it to be portrayed hilariously, which it was. Unfortunately, not everyone is as familiar with The Daily Show…

I am also a member of the Society of American Archivists [nerd alert!] & in my daily digest email, this was quite a hot topic. There were some laughs & quite a few with hurt feelings. In any case, bad publicity is some sort of publicity at least. It gives me & my fellow archivists an opportunity to share what the profession is really about. [& explain why I'm spending 2 years getting a masters in it!]

The school semester drawing closer to the end, & my semester-long, time-intensive group project is starting to wrap up. Tonight we worked on our affinity diagram, a culmination of data gathered from seven interviews, for over six hours. It has been a LOT of work, but the end result is pretty cool & hopefully we can give our client some recommendations they can use.

Now it’s after 1am & tomorrow is a long day, so I leave you with this beautiful video of Andrew Bird.
